With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Annette Duray, 88, of Gurnee, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loved ones on May 11, 2024. Born on December 2, 1935, in Chicago, IL, she was the cherished daughter of Josephine and Fred DeWyze and a proud Belgian.
Annette lived a life guided by optimism, caring for others, and unwavering faith. Her heart overflowed with love, and she dedicated herself to others with unmatched devotion. With a keen sense of humor, she brought light to every room she entered. A loving mother to four children, Annette’s care extended beyond her family. She had a 30-year career as a Custom Window Treatment Consultant at Wieboldt’s and J.C. Penney. After retirement, she volunteered at Home of the Sparrow, whose mission is to help women and children out of homelessness where she showcased her dedication to making a difference. Annette was devoted to her church, contributing her time to various ministries, including prison outreach, choir, and coordinating food donations for church guests. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, evident in her selfless service to others. Among her passions, Annette found joy in expressing her creativity through sewing, painting, and drawing. She also loved to play cards and games with her family and enjoyed spending time with her many friends. She had a remarkable ability to find melody in every moment, often breaking into song, bringing joy to those around her.
She married Donald Duray on November 23rd, 1957, and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. She was blessed with four children, and was Nana to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, which were her top priority and the light of her life. Annette is preceded in death by her husband Don and is survived by her children Sharon (Don Wilkerson), Debbie (George Hepburn) Kevin (Donna Duray) and Michelle Duray, eight grandchildren, David (Heather) Murphy, Cameron and Colin Hepburn, Matthew, Daniel and Joshua Duray and Kylee and Emilee Ahr; and three great-grandchildren, Molly Margo, and Mae Murphy. A celebration of life will be held from 9:30-10:30 on Wednesday, May 22nd at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 410 N. First St. in Cary followed by Mass at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Annette’s name to Home of the Sparrow (hosparrow.org/donate) or SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church (peterpaulchurchcary.org).
