Gregory Charles Larson age 71, of Grayslake, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in his home with his loving wife Connie of 30 years and his son Clayton at his bedside.  Greg courageously fought prostate cancer for over 10 years and defied the odds of the 5-year survivor rate pushing through treatments and trials.  He never complained and continued operating Greg Larson Excavating, Inc with his son Clayton Larson until just a week before he passed.

A beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend to all, Greg was always more concerned about others than himself.  Greg grew up with his parents Chuck, Velma and brother Dave in Ingleside, IL.

Greg was drafted to the U.S. Army after high school and honorably discharged in 1971 and began Greg Larson Excavating, Inc. in 1972 when he started his life passion.  Greg began operating equipment at a very young age for his father, he is loved by his customers and is respected by his colleagues with a reputation for excellence and innovation.  Greg is loved by many, friend to all who meet him, respected for his craft, shared knowledge and his work ethic with his sons. Work started for Greg before the sun rises and ends after the sun sets.  Greg was humble and proud provided ways to improve plans and cut costs at jobs, he modified or created ways to enhance his equipment, ever striving for efficiency and perfected.

Greg loved deeply, honored and cherished his wife Connie and was extremely proud of his son’s, Grant, Billy, Blake and Clayton.   There are many, many stories if not already shared to be shared.  Greg had a wonderful life growing up in the rural farm area in Lake County, many antics shared between himself, brother Dave and cousin John.

Greg you are loved, you will be deeply missed, you have many who are wondering what happened so quickly, you were gone from us there was no time. You were a brave cancer survivor until the end and an inspiration to many.

Until we will see you again my friend…

Greg is survived by his wife Connie Anne Larson (Kick), sons; Grant Larson (Stephanie Sherman), William Byrne (Kori Brandt), Blake Larson (Stephanie), Clayton Larson (Leslie Beake). Grandchildren; Alice Larson, Mark Larson, Evie Larson, Garryn Thornberry, Irelynn Byrne, Brandt Byrne.  Brother Dave Larson (Debbie), nieces, Rachel and Stephanie Larson and stepmother Judith Larson, Mother-in-Law Patricia Anderson.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Velma (Toyan) Larson, father-in-law David Kick.

No man has loved his life, his family and dirt more than Greg Larson.

Funeral Mass will be held 9:30 am Friday October 28, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish 114 Lincoln Ave, Round Lake, IL 60073.
