Harold Lee Bortell, age 63, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024 in Barrington, IL after an ongoing battle with cancer. He was born in Smyrna, TN, on January 23, 1961. He enjoyed woodworking, grilling and sitting by the fire in the evenings. He graduated from Stevenson High School in 1980 and worked over 30 years as a union carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan (Lundquist) Bortell; his four children: Kelsey, Maggie, Katie and Sean; his three sisters: Kate Bortell, Denise (Dan) Wilkening and Barbara Akins; and many nieces and nephews.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Violet; in-laws, Gerald and Patricia Lundquist; his brothers, Mark and Tom; and his nephew, Remington.

 He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society or other cancer charities. The family wishes to thank Illinois Cancer Specialists, Northwestern Medicine and JourneyCare Hospice for all the time they spent with Harold, even though it was short, and all the care they provided during the heartbreaking final moments of Harold’s life.
