Joel C. Hernandez, 70, of Bridgeview, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 11, 1954, in Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Roberto and Guadalupe Cordero de Hernandez.

Joel is survived by his beloved children: Rene (Araceli) Hernandez, Joel (Judy) Hernandez, Marina Hernandez, and Leticia (Eric) Mays. He was a proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and a loving companion to his grand dogs Huck, Juno, Kobe and Charlie. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Marina Mercado, with whom he shared many cherished memories and loved deeply.

Joel is deeply loved by his sisters, Evangelina Ramirez and Maria Guadalupe Lopez, who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his Parents: Roberto Hernandez and Maria Guadalupe Cordero de Hernandez. His siblings: Irma Santiago, Roberto Hernandez, and Laura Gaytan.

For 40 years, Joel worked as a laborer at Central Steel and Wire Company, where he became known for his hard work and dedication to providing for his family. He was the true meaning of a hardworking man, always ensuring his loved ones had everything they needed.

Outside of work, Joel was passionate about the Chicago Cubs, loved traveling, and especially enjoyed sharing tacos with family. His infectious smile and laughter brought joy to all who knew him. Joel was the biggest cheerleader for his children and grandchildren, offering endless encouragement and filling their lives with happiness.

Joel will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

 A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025  3pm to 8pm at Russo Hillside Chapel, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, IL 60162. 708-449-5300.
