John F. Wallace III passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022 at his home with his wife, Frasia, daughter, Leigh and brother, Kevin present.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Betty Wallace, his in-laws Levy and Harriet Tindal, his father’s two younger brothers, Bill (Audrey) and Buzz (first wife, Anne), Joan McGinley, his mother’s sister.
John is survived by his wife, Frasia, their two sons, Ben (Jenny) of CO. Jess of New Zealand and their daughter, Leigh of Brooklyn, NY. He has four grandchildren, Liv and Lu Wallace of CO, Everett and Soren Wallace of New Zealand. He is also survived by his younger brother Kevin and his uncle on his mother’s side, Bob McGinley. John was the oldest of fourteen Cousins, 10 Wallaces and 4 McGinleys. John is also survived by Frasia’s sister Lu and husband Larry Peters.
John was born in Decatur, IL on October 15, 1948. He attended a two-room schoolhouse complete with an outhouse for a year or two. He had a sizable paper route which he delivered on his bike. At thirteen, John’s family moved to Detroit, Rosedale Park. John attended Redford High School where he became very involved in music. He played the trumpet initially then switching to the baritone. In high school John was part of a quartet in Music Man and chorus in other musicals. He was involved in youth group and choir at Calvin Presbyterian in Detroit. At the beginning of his junior year the youth group went on a church retreat at Lake Huron where he met Frasia(his wife). John graduated from high school in 1966. He completed a year at a community college when his parents moved to Glen Cove, Long Island. Swimming and sailing were a big part of living on the east coast. John enlisted in the navy in 1968 and was stationed out of Norfolk, VA. He was on the USS Independence, taking three tours to the Mediterranean. He would take leave when the ship was in port in Greece and Italy.
John and Frasia were married in 1972. They lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for 9 years. John got his degree from WMU. John and Frasia lived in Lathrup Village, NW of Detroit for five years, moved to Glen Ellyn in 1984 and onto Spring Grove, IL in 2005.
Their three children, Ben, Jess and Leigh basically grew up in Glen Ellyn. John was very active in his children’s lives, coaching soccer, attending soccer games, mainly for Ben and Jess , watching football and basketball games while Leigh was a cheerleader. John enjoyed golf during his years as a sales rep. As he got older, he took up fishing which led John and Frasia to live on Grass Lake. Music continued to play a big part in John’s life. At Southminster, Glen Ellyn he sang in the choir plus active in other ways. Upon moving north John continued his choir participation at Wildwood Presbyterian adding Bell choir to his list of activities. John was a people person being a very gregarious person. John loved God. He loved his family. He loved his friends.
