Kevin Robert McKenna, 67, passed away April 28, 2024 after a battle with cancer. He was born April 1, 1957 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1975 and the University of Notre Dame in 1979, where he was a proud member of Dillon Hall, a regular participant of the annual Bookstore Basketball tournament, and where he met the love of his life, Anne Davey. He achieved his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent School of Law in 1982. He had a long career in Human Resources where he was known for his sharp mind and compassion.

Kevin loved reading and had an impressive library. He enjoyed a wide variety of music and attending concerts, but his favorite was Bruce Springsteen, seeing him over 50 times. Kevin loved playing and watching sports. He was a good athlete with a nice jump shot. He was a baseball and basketball coach to many and always stressed “Play Hard! Play Smart! Have Fun!” He made it to 28 of the 30 MLB teams’ stadiums.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, of 40+ years. They loved to play tennis, solve the daily Wordle puzzle together, and take annual vacations with their family to Union Pier, MI. Kevin was father to Patrick (Kara) and Caitlin (Bryan) and was everything you could ask for in a father; loving, supportive, guiding, always available, honest, providing, and fun. Kevin had four grandchildren, Robert, Stevie, Liam, and Sonny, that he cherished. He was not only their “Poppy,” but their best friend too. They absolutely adored him and loved their weekly Nana and Poppy days. Kevin is also survived by his parents, Bob and Marie and his siblings, Colleen, John, and Maura.

A funeral Mass will be held on June 8, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Veronica’s Parish (formerly known as Infant Jesus of Prague (IJP)), 1120 Douglas Ave., Flossmoor, IL 60422.

A celebration of life will be held immediately following the funeral Mass from 12-3 PM at Aurelio’s of Homewood, 18162 Harwood Ave, Homewood, IL 60430.

In lieu of flowers, Kevin requested that donations be made to Sit Stay Read. This non-profit has a unique approach to building confidence in reading for kids. Kevin always shared his joy of reading with others because the better read that people are, the more likely they are to be curious and thoughtful. https://www.sitstayread.org/
