Lee Douglas McRoy, 73, of Fox Lake, IL passed away peacefully at his home early Father’s Day morning, June 19th, 2022.

He was born March 4th, 1949 to Lloyd and Alice McRoy in Maywood, Illinois. In 1969, Lee enlisted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam. During his service, he was wounded twice. In 1970, he was honorably discharged with 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

In 1976, he met his wife Diane (nee Mikulski). Lee and Diane went on to marry less than 6 months later on August 7th, 1976 and have two children together, Christopher, 32 and Carlee, 24.

Lee enjoyed many years of fishing on the Wolf River in Fremont, Wisconsin with his son and his best friends. He was a phenomenal pool player, playing across multiple pool leagues in Lake County, often placing first. Most recently, you would find him playing at Squaw Bar in Ingleside or at his personal pool table in his basement. Anywhere Lee went, he was able to start up a conversation with every person that crossed his path. He was kind, friendly, personable, and had a genuine heart of gold. He cared for his friends and neighbors and would always lend a helping hand. He loved his family and would tell anyone who would listen how proud he was of both of his children. The last few weeks of his life was spent reminiscing on his children’s life and their accomplishments. All he wanted was the best for his family. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 46 years, Diane; his children, Christopher (Kaitlyn) and Carlee (Cole Blankenberger) McRoy; his granddaughter Lorelai McRoy; his sister Kathy Dohr; fellow serviceman and best friend, Harlan (LaVerne) Hineline; best friend and fishing buddy, Jim Miessler; friends, Mike (Wendy) Dobosiewicz and Christine Wood; many nieces and nephews; his beloved pet yorkie, Ceira; and his grand-dogs Minnie, Hudson, and Bentley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Alice McRoy; his sister Marilyn Obenauf; his brothers Lloyd “Mac”, Robert “Bob”, Timothy “Tim” McRoy; his father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Ann Mikulski; his brother-in-laws Michael and Wayne Mikulski; and his friend, Tom Wood.

Family and friends are encouraged to join Lee McRoy’s Celebration of life on July 16th, 2022 from 2pm – 6pm at Squaw Bar 800 Rollins Rd. Ingleside, IL 60041.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Fox Lake Rescue Squad, Suncrest Home Health & Hospice, or Sage Cancer Center in Lee’s name.
