Marie Anne Exon (nee Cush) was born in Lucerne Mines, PA, on August 16, 1935.  After graduating from Homer City High School in Pennsylvania, she joined the Navy and was transferred to Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois once her training was finished.  After completing her service in the Navy, she married Thomas R. Exon, Jr., the man that would be her husband for 53 years and worked at Condell Hospital in the maternity ward before becoming a full time mother of five.

She loved reading, sewing (sharing her skills with Girl Scout troop members), arts ‘n crafts, bowling, dancing, singing and helping people however she could. She was a people person who was active at the Mundelein Senior Center (calling bingo and playing cards), participated as an Illinois Poll Watcher during several voting experiences, added a “granddaughter” to the family (Ruby Nicholson) while volunteering in the Grandparent Tutor Program at Washington School in Mundelein, IL.

Marie passed away at Shepherd Premier in Harvard, IL, on August 2, 2024, succumbing to a long battle with dementia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Exon, Jr., parents (John and Anna Kush) and sisters (Helen Brew, Agnes Mester, Irene Leysock, Dorothy Novak and Deloris Cush).

Marie is survived by her five children: Rosanne Exon, Daniel Michael Exon (and wife, Donna), Kathleen Marie Exon (and partner, Lydia), Pamela Jean Exon, Michael Anthony Exon (and wife, Toni) and three grandchildren: Abigail Nicole Exon, Carson Michael Exon and Alyssa Marie Exon.

Marie and Tom will be buried together during a private service at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery on October 4, 2024. No need to send flowers or anything, but feel free to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Marie A. Exon at act.alz.org.
