Shirley L. Sheets of Ingleside, Illinois.

Retired Head Start Director/Teacher Shirley Sheets, passed away on May 2, 2022 at the age of 88 after a courageous and long battle with heart disease.  Shirley’s love of life did not come to an end with her death. Her loved ones will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Shirley took pride in her school and students. She shared her passion for learning with hundreds of children for over 30 years. She believed the children kept her young at heart. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Shirley. She loved family, friends, holidays, baking, dining out, movies and music. She was a woman of strong loyalty, integrity and opinions. An avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Bulls, she never gave up hope.

Shirley met the love of her life, Walter, in high school. Married for 57 years, she supported his career as an Educator/Superintendent every step of the way. Together they had 3 children: Jill, Curt, and Sydnee.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, son Curtis, both her parents and her three brothers.

She is survived by two children Jill Sheets, Sydnee (Jim) Gortva, and her daughter-in-law Rose Sheets. Shirley has three grandchildren: Melissa (Bo), Jennifer, and Steven (Roxy).  She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Maddie, Declan, Elle, Barrett, Irelynn, Hadley and Quinn.

She is at peace now. We were blessed to have Shirley in our lives and she will always be in our hearts. Shirley will be honored in a private celebration of life per her wishes.
