John R. “Jack” Pierce, 85, passed away November 8th with family by his side. He was born in Chicago to William E. Pierce Sr. and Catherine (nee Woolfe) Pierce. They moved to Johnsburg in 1941 where they lived on a mink farm and later a dairy farm. As a young man, he worked at a creamery, was a hunting guide, carpenter, road construction worker and mechanic. He served in the Army National Guard of Illinois. Jack married Barbara (nee Olsen) Pierce in 1962. Jack worked as a Union Carpenter for over 30 years and served with the Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Department Company 2. He also volunteered at FISH of McHenry Food Pantry. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling the United States, gardening, woodworking, making maple syrup, baking pies and making friends and inspiring family along the way. He was truly a “Jack” of all trades and will be dearly missed. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara, parents William Pierce Sr. and Catherine Pierce, brothers William Pierce Jr. (Billy) and Robert Pierce (Robbie), and grandson William. He is survived by four children, Jean/Tim Slattery, John/Terri Pierce, Joan/Jack Fulcher and Joseph Pierce; four grandchildren, Josie, Daniel, Ariel and Joey, and his sister Kathleen Dam/Gene Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church Street, Johnsburg , IL 60051, on December 4, 2023 at 10am.
