Amos Harold “Hal” Songer, 85, of Long Grove, IL and Punta Gorda, FL passed away April 14, 2024 at his home in Long Grove. He was born in Detroit, MI on May 19, 1938 to Herbert and Nina May (nee Jones) Songer. Following high school, Hal joined the United States Navy. While serving, he participated in Operation Hardtack I, nuclear bomb testing. He then attended Michigan State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Finance. Hal began his career working for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, MI as an Industrial Engineer. Later, he worked as CFO for General Battery Corporation, Reading, PA and Eagle Industries in Chicago, IL. At the end of his career, Hal was owner of Kramer International Foundry in Milwaukee, WI and Alloy Casting in Racine, WI. Hal enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, of 60 years; his two beloved children, daughter, Gerri Kay Songer and son, Michael (Barbra) Songer; three grandchildren, Jamie (Damian) Burke, Andi Songer, and Maxwell (Hannah) Songer; and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Colton Burke. Inurnment will take place at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery on May 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM with Navy Military Honors. Cheri Tuccy will be officiating. |
